WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This course is suitable for anyone preparing for the CompTIA Security+ Certification Exam SY0-101, or anyone who is interested in learning network and security basics.
Which CompTIA course is the one for me?
DESCRIPTION
CompTIA Security+ is a vendor neutral qualification that will teach you about general security concepts, communication security, infrastructure security, some basics of cryptography, and operational and organisational security.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
Online skills assessment is provided in the form of a practice exam that includes questions in a format similar to the certification exam. College attendance is not required as each assessment uses "live" online programs to measure your performance.
Successful completion of this course will result in the award of an Aberdeen College Certificate.
Complete certification requirements for A+, Network+, Security+, and Server+ are located at the CompTIA Web site at www.comptia.com.
If you wish to undertake the industry recognised qualification, you must sit the appropriate exams at a registered testing centre. To find the Pearson VUE or Prometric test centre closest to you please click on the appropriate link.
The current assessment charge will be listed by the testing centre and is not included in the price of this course.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Although not a requirement, it is recommended that students have the CompTIA Network+ certification prior to enrolling on this course
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
The following is a list of the Technical Requirements for this course:
- P500+ Processor,
- 128MB of RAM;
- Windows 2000, XP, Vista (these courses will not run on a Mac)
- Minimum screen resolution 800x600,
- Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher;
- Windows Media Player 9.0 or higher;
- 56K minimum connection; broadband (256 kpbs or higher) connection recommended;
- Javascript, DHTML and cookies enabled;
- Sound card with speakers or headphones strongly recommended.
- Flash 8.0 or higher (Note: Because these courses open in a pop-up window, pop-up blocking software must be disabled.)

Aberdeen College has its own dedicated team of Guidance and Advisory professionals for the benefit of both current students and anyone who is interested in becoming a student. Student Guidance and Advisory personnel are available throughout the year and are based in all the College's teaching centres, providing information, advice and confidential support services for all students. Whilst studying with ac:knowledge, you will have access to the College Libraries, and the IT Centre. You will be assigned a tutor who is a subject specialist in your chosen course. Your tutor is there to support you through the course, provide assistance with the online learning materials and give feedback on your assessments. You will also have technical and administrative support from the ac:knowledge team.
This course can be accessed through Blackboard which is Aberdeen College's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Through Blackboard you will be able to access your learning materials, information and communicate with other students. An online induction to Blackboard has been provided for your use.
