WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?

This course is designed for End Users, Application Developers, Web authors, marketing and communications professionals, Webmasters and graphic designers.

DESCRIPTION

This course presents concepts for designing and building Web sites. It covers how to plan the structure of a Web site, maintaining the Web site files, and considering the affect that various browsers, monitors, and systems can have on the display of a site. Strategies for making a site download quickly and display well across all browsers and systems are presented, along with creating color schemes, backgrounds, GIF transparencies, and image maps. Additional topics covered in this series include the use of HTML and graphics for formatting and layout, and other useful tools such as frames, animated GIFs, dynamic HTML, JavaScript, QuickTime, Flash, and Shockwave. 

The Web Publishing and Design section teaches you how to make Web sites using HTML 4.01, XHTML, and cascading style sheets. It also provides tips and guidelines to help you design and create effective Web sites, as well as organize their content.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Online skills assessment is provided for each unit. This means that College attendance is not required as each assessment uses "live" online programs to measure your performance.

Successful completion of this course will result in the award of a College Certificate.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

This course is for anyone who is interested in learning more about building a Web site or creating the graphics for a site.

It is recommended that you should have attained the Web Design Certificate or equivalent as this would provide the foundation knowledge required for this course.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

The following is a list of the Technical Requirements for this course:

  • P500+ Processor,
  • 128MB of RAM;
  • Windows 2000, XP, Vista (these courses will not run on a Mac)
  • Minimum screen resolution 800x600,
  • Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher;
  • Windows Media Player 9.0 or higher;
  • 56K minimum connection; broadband (256 kpbs or higher) connection recommended;
  • Javascript, DHTML and cookies enabled;
  • Sound card with speakers or headphones strongly recommended.
  • Flash 8.0 or higher (Note:  Because these courses open in a pop-up window, pop-up blocking software must be disabled.)

You will also have technical and administrative support from the ac:knowledge team.

This course can be accessed through Blackboard which is Aberdeen College's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Through Blackboard you will be able to access your learning materials, information and communicate with other students. An online induction to Blackboard has been provided for your use.
