DESCRIPTION
This SCQF level 5 equivalent course is a nationally recognised qualification, which is particularly suited to people with an interest in pursuing a career in science, but who have few or no formal qualifications. The course is composed of SQA units, the majority of which are at Intermediate 2 level. The course will contain a particularly large amount of stimulating practical activities and laboratory work, which are designed to make the course entertaining and exciting, as well as giving participants a broad base of laboratory expertise. Much of the practical work undertaken will be of direct relevance to local issues and industries, or to topical events.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
It is not necessarily essential to hold previous qualifications in science subjects. It is, however, in your interest to enrol for a course which matches your experience and ability. Science is an academically demanding subject, and your previous qualifications should indicate that you will be comfortable in studying at SCQF Level 5 (Intermediate2). This could be demonstrated by holding, for example, Standard Grades at General 3 in relevant subjects.
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This course is suited to persons who are wishing to achieve a science qualification to allow progression to further study, or who have a general interest in science which they are wanting to develop further.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
This course is assessed on a continuous basis and does not include an end-of-course examination. Coursework takes the form of short tests, reports, and practical work. The assessment of student work is undertaken by College staff, and all candidates will be given regular updates on their progress.
PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Students successfully completing this course may progress to NC in Applied Sciences at SCQF Level 6. For candidates who show exceptional progression during the SCQF level 5 course, progression direct to HNC/D may be possible.
