DESCRIPTION
This course has been designed for students wishing to develop practical skills and engineering knowledge. It offers a balance between classroom-based subjects and practical 'hands-on' skills and provides the student with a sound engineering knowledge at craft level.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Entry to this course would typically be for candidates with Standard Grades at General level, those with relevant work experience or who have successfully completed a relevant course at introductory level. For those returning to education, life skills and experience in the workplace may allow entry subject to availability.
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This course is designed for those wishing to start their career in electrical engineering. It offers a balance between classroom based subjects and practical 'hands-on' skills and provides candidates with a sound engineering knowledge at craft level. It is suitable for students who wish to work within an engineering environment in a practical rather than theoretical role. Time is spent in the labs, workshops and class rooms developing the skills and competencies required to operate at craft level within the Engineering industry. Completion of the course will allow successful students to follow a career in the private or public sector as craftsmen in an engineering industry, or undertake study at a higher level.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
This course is mainly assessed on a continuous basis and does not include an external end-of-course examination. Coursework takes the form of reports, presentations and practical projects. Most of the assessment of student work is undertaken by College staff.
PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Successful candidates may wish to progress their studies by considering a range of suitable National Certificate courses such as Electrical Engineering or HNC Engineering Practice. Employment opportunities may include employment as craftsmen within the Engineering industry.
