DESCRIPTION

This course offers further study at higher education level in social care. Applicants should preferably have experience of working in social care settings and the ability to develop personal skills and qualities appropriate to work in caring professions.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The course is open to those who have studied at Higher level and who have care experience. For full-time students there will be a placement which will require an Enhanced Disclosure certificate. Applicants should not apply for this route unless they are working (paid or voluntary) in a recognised care setting.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?

People who have experience of working in social care settings and who have the ability to develop personal skills and qualities appropriate to work in caring professions. This course may be undertaken on a part-time Fast Track basis for people employed in a care setting (one day per week in College with a minimum of two days per week, working as part of care team).

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

A system of continuous assessment is used which will include closed book and open book questions; essays, presentations and case studies. The Graded Unit is a written report on a practical activity undertaken in placement. It is marked by the centre and externally moderated by SQA.

PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

On successful completion students may progress onto the BA in Social Work or employment in care as social care assistants/support workers.
