The National Certificate in Animal Care has been designed as a flexible, practical-based programme which aims to provide candidates with a range of practical and industry relevant skills supported by relevant and up to date knowledge and understanding. The course offers a wide range of animal care experiences based on practical and theory classes. Completing the Group Award will put candidates in a stronger position to move to the next stage of their career and should increase their chances of doing this successfully.
This course is suitable for people who have achieved the basic animal care course. Consideration would also be given to those applicants who have achieved the appropriate Standard Grades, Intermediate 2 or National 5 qualifications. They should also have a genuine interest in animals and be prepared for the written work associated with the course.
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This course is suited to persons who are wishing to achieve an animal care qualification to allow progression to further study, or who have a genuine interest in animals and want to develop further.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
This course is assessed on a continuous basis and does not include an end-of-course examination. Coursework takes the form of short tests, reports, and practical work. The assessment of student work is undertaken by College staff, and all candidates will be given regular updates on their progress.
PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Although there is no direct articulation from the National Certificate in Animal Care to the HN in Animal Care, candidates who have completed the Group Award will be well prepared to embark on an HND in Animal Care.
