Unit: Animal Biology

UNIT DESCRIPTION:

This Unit is designed to provide candidates with an awareness of the characteristics of animals within the major animal phyla, the relationship between structure and function of major types of animal tissues and awareness of the relationships between the structure of different animals and their life in different environments.

On completion of the Unit candidates should be able to:

  • Describe the main characteristics of the major animal categories.
  • Relate the structure of major animal tissues to function.
  • Relate animal body structure to function in different environments.
  • Perform practical laboratory investigations into animal body adaptations to different environments.
