DESCRIPTION
This course is for those with basic computer competency - can use a mouse and keyboard and open and close windows and files/documents. This is a suitable follow-on from Computing: Next Step (Word & Excel).
This course is designed to utilise the skills learnt from the Computing for Beginners course and to build the student's confidence with computers and IT while introducing the student to basic internet and email use such as search techniques and sending and receiving emails from their own student email accounts.
You know the very basics. You've taken the first step with your computer - you can use a mouse and find your way around the keyboard and you know that Windows aren't just glass panes that let the sun in. And now you are ready to suft the web and communicate with the online community.
Internet and Email for Beginners will push you to the next level. You'll complete the course feeling confident in your computing abilities, and able to use the internet and communicate via email. You'll gain the basic skills you need to be surefooted as you move forward in your computing pursuits.
You will also undertake a National Unit in Internet Applications (F7H9 08).
COURSE CONTENT
Course content may be tailored by the tutor to meet the needs of individual groups of learners. Content will include:
- Managing files and folders to organise your computer and data
- Searching the internet effectively using an up to date web browser
- Understanding search engines and their functions
- Sending and receiving emails
- Transferring information from the internet to a word processing package
- Printing from various information sources
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS OR GUIDANCE REQUIRED
There are no formal entry requirements for this course but ideally, students will have completed Computing: Next Step (Word & Excel).
