Multimedia Centre

Aberdeen College has an excellent Multimedia department, which has been established as a centre of excellence for students studying television operations, music and audio technology, graphics and radio broadcasting.

The Centre encompasses the following areas:

Television

A multi-camera television studio with broadcast-quality location cameras forms the heart of the practical learning environment in camera work, lighting and sound recording. The studio offers stimulated industry conditions student where students can perfect skills using the latest broadcasting equipment.

Students can expect to receive excellent tuition from our lecturers, who are industry professionals with broadcast experience within corporations such as the BBC.

Our award-winning students have won first place for two consecutive years in the Video/Moving Image category of the Scottish Further Education Skills Challenge Competition.

In 2003 and 2004 consecutively, our TV Operations & Production students have showcased their work in screenings at the local Belmont cinema. These exciting events have proven to be a great success and it is hoped to continue the showcase on an annual basis, an excellent opportunity for our aspiring film makers.

Radio Broadcasting

'Gallowgate Radio', is the College's own radio station, which has three live studios and the latest digital editing packages. Studio 1 is the main on-air studio, designed to simulate a music presentation studio, Studio 2 is the speech studio, for the recording of commercial voice-overs and radio drama. Finally, Studio 3 is the Newsroom, using popular digital packages for news broadcasts and news editing.

Teaching staff are all actively involved in the industry. This provides students with an excellent opportunity to be uniquely and indirectly involved in current broadcasting situations and issues. The staff have impressive backgrounds in radio presentation, production, journalism and PR with both local and national organisations. Experience comes from working with leading broadcasting companies such as BBC Scotland, BBC World Service, BBC Radio 4, Capital Radio, Northsound Radio and Tay FM.

Music and Audio Technology

The Multimedia Centre boasts an impressive new sound recording studio, which tops the charts with state-of-the art digital audio technology. An excellent facility for those students who wish to work within the recording industry.
