QUALIFICATIONS AT ABERDEEN COLLEGE

Most qualifications at Aberdeen College are accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). The qualifications are primarily the Higher National Certificate (HNC) which is regarded as being at a level equivalent to first year study at a Scottish University (SD {Scottish Degree} Level 1) and the Higher National Diploma (HND) which is regarded as being at a level equivalent to the first two years of study at a Scottish University (SD Levels 1 and 2)

Each qualification is made up of a number of Units, each bearing a credit rating. One SQA Credit is the equivalent of 40 hours of teaching and Units may carry a rating of 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2 or 3 Credits. A Higher National Certificate is usually awarded on the achievement of 12 Credits while a Higher National Diploma usually requires 30 Credits. 1 SQA Credit is the equivalent of 4 European Credits. However, individual Units can also be credited upon achievement.

As well as a transcript of achievement issued by Aberdeen College, overseas students will also receive certification from the SQA for any Units achieved.

For qualifications awarded by awarding bodies other than the SQA a College Transcript will be issued and, if applicable, certification by the awarding body.
