European Projects
FAIR (Fashion Inspired by Rhymes) 2008
HND Fashion & Textiles (Art, Design, Visual Communication & Photography)
This Comenius bi-lateral European exchange partnership between Aberdeen College and IPSIA "E Majorana" (a vocational school in Milan) was very successful and great fun! Our fashion and textiles students undertook a study tour to Milan which was a source of inspiration for them and the staff who accompanied them. The Italian staff and students came to Aberdeen later in the year.

IPSIA "E. Majorana" Cernusco college researched the work of Robert Burns, Scotland's famous poet, taking into account the cultural-historical context of the period and produced fashion, textile, garment and accessory designs.
Aberdeen College found inspiration in some of the most important Italian operas and produced opera cloaks.
Aberdeen College students in Milan (June 08)
Both, the Italian and Scottish students participated in creating a project website which aided not only the communication between staff and students but also research and the delivery and storage of the designs produced by the students.
The main aims were to collaborate in a fashion project using language from literature, poetry and Opera lyrics from Italian and Scottish culture as themes in order to learn each other's language and be inspired by the stories and visual images conjured from these sources in order to create opera cloaks.
A touch of Scottish culture at the Student Association ceilidh organised for the Italian visitors (Sept 08)
These opera cloaks were exhibited in Milan and Aberdeen at fashion shows held by both colleges.
Students were also taught the language of the partnership country in order to converse virtually and in person.
