European Projects
HERBKEY (From Herbs to Key Competences) 2008-2010
HND Applied Sciences (Science)
This Comenius multilateral European exchange partnership between Aberdeen College and ITAS G. GALILEI (a secondary school in Jesi, Italy) and Grammar school in Kysucke Nove Mesto, Slovakia was very exiting and unusual!
It was a science based project where students researched and identified the different kinds of herb plants and their traditional and current use in each partner's country.
This project was designed to address the challenges faced by all partner countries of the EU. Specifically, communication in partners' mother tongue, in foreign languages, basic competences in science and technology, digital competences, abilities to pursue and persist in learning and interpersonal, intercultural and social competences.
At a transnational meeting, students established commonality or unique presence and use of herbs.
Between transnational meetings, students investigated some of the chemical and biological properties of herbs and shared and exchanged methodologies and results using new technologies.
Students conducted further experimental work in transnational groups at partners' laboratories. This enabled students to develop common skills and technological competences in shared practical activities. This transnational work was designed to overcome possible cultural barriers through a common shared scientific approach.
