‘Go Green' for Learning with Aberdeen College
From ‘Leftovers to a La Carte' to ‘Discovering Decoupage' and ‘Jazzing up your Jewellery', Aberdeen College is ‘Going Green for Learning' during Adult Learners' Week which this year begins on Monday 14 May.
Aberdeen College is running a selection of free taster events to tempt the taste buds and motivate the mature into rediscovering their thirst for knowledge.
Adult Learner's Week is the UK's largest and longest running learning campaign. Held each May, it encourages thousands of adults, whatever their age and background, to give learning a go. To support this, Aberdeen College is organising free taster sessions and events which will be held in the College's Gallowgate Centre.
Kicking off the week is a green goodie for foodies - a workshop that inspires ideas for cooking on a budget and turning leftovers into gourmet meals.
Visitors will also be able to bring the sparkle back to old memories by restoring old photographs of family and loved ones. ‘Recycle and Reminisce' gives guests the opportunity to manipulate and improve the quality of much loved photographs from days gone by using the latest photograph editing skills and techniques.
On Tuesday the 15th of May, members of the public can air their views and opinions, ideas and experiences about green issues in Aberdeen City's very own Vox Box which will be situated down at the Gallowgate Centre between 2-6pm!
On Wednesday, re-cycle disciples can turn their old, unwanted jeans into a fabulous, brand new bag when they discover how to transform something old into a completely bespoke piece.
There will also be an opportunity to design a trinket box which you can decorate using the technique of decoupage. Whether you decide to use your favourite photographs, cards and love letters or go for a fun and quirky look, it will be unique to you, and something for you to cherish or give as a gift.
On Thursday, as part of Learning at Work Day, members of the public are invited to join staff and students when ‘Aberdeen College goes Green!' Guests will be able to talk to experts about all things Green and find out about what the College does to manage its environment. There will be lots of crafty re-cycling ideas and exhibitions.
Afterwards why not try another gem of an event where you can learn to revamp your old jewellery through simple skills and techniques which will bring your favourite pieces back to life.
All events are free and open to members of the public, but places on all taster sessions are limited. Booking is essential by phoning freephone 0800 027 0405 option 3. Full details are available by visiting: www.abcol.ac.uk.
